Accessing after school clubs and activities - the yPod service for children aged 4-16

The yPod Service (Opening Doors) is a joint initiative between the 5-13 Fund and the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership. Southampton Mencap manages the service, with the key objective of providing relevant support so that children with a learning disability and or additional need are given opportunities to access local play or registered after school club activities during term-time. In addition to term-time activities, children are given relevant support to access local play or registered care schemes during the school holidays, and this may include specialist provision where the needs of the child are so high extra support is necessary to enable them to participate.

What does the service offer?

Appropriate support for children aged 4 - 16 to access their local After School Club or registered care setting. Appropriate support for children aged 4 - 13 to access local play and leisure provision, e.g. Brownies, Cubs, Youth Clubs, Dance Group, Art Club or Open Access Play Schemes or any other group activities. An inclusive grant scheme for Early Years settings and Childminders to provide additional funding for children with additional needs.
