Support for Young Carers
Southampton Voluntary Services provides the Southampton Young Carers Project which works with children and young people under the age of 18 years whose lives are affected by caring for an unwell or disabled family member. The person they care for may have a physical or learning disability, a long-term illness, mental ill health or have difficulties with drug/alcohol use. Why do young carers need a young carers project?
Because of their caring responsibilities many young carers are not able to have time for fun and friends. They may find it difficult to attend school regularly, and on time, not having time to complete homework. They may feel physically and mentally drained from caring.
