Nathan King named as new Youth MP for Southampton 2010/11
The results of this year's youth MP elections were announced on Monday 8th March in the Council Chamber, Civic Centre. Southampton had four candidates standing for election, aged from 11 to 17. They were: Miriam Hall, Nathan King, Grace McPherson and Danielle Townsend. Their campaign issues included fighting for cheaper public transport for young people, improving the range of music activities and opportunities available, promoting positive images of young people in the media, recycling and climate change, and lowering the voting age to 16.
Councillor Ben Walker announced the results to parents, Southampton City Youth Parliament members, Youth Support workers, a film crew from Solent University, a Daily Echo reporter and head of Young People and Community Support.

Nathan has decided to take all three runners-up as his deputies for the year. As well as attending regional and national meetings and campaign events, the youth MPs will represent young people in the local area and take forward issues that matter to them. They will also work alongside the Young People and Community Support area teams in the west (Nathan King), east (Grace and Danielle) and central (Miriam).
