Upper Shirley High's Achievements Celebrated at 10 Downing Street

Cassie Ellins, Principal of Upper Shirley High
Visit to 10 Downing Street

I was delighted to be invited by the Prime Minister to 10 Downing Street to celebrate the achievements of this school, along with other heads from across the country.  Gordon Brown personally thanked us for raising standards in our schools.  This is particularly important at a time when everyone is focussed on 5 A-C grades but in relation to USH, given the students that we had last year, we were delighted that we helped each and every one to achieve their own potential, which is always our promise to our parents.  This was reflected in our CVA score alongside our total points score.  During the visit I was able to meet again with Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, and Vernon Coaker, Minister for Schools, who had visited this school in November.  It was a lovely evening and I honestly admit to being quite excited when standing on the steps of 10 Downing Street!
