Update on CRB Checks for Day Care Providers
Important News for Day Care Providers regarding CRB checks From 3 October 2005 the law has changed and this has affected suitability checks on staff in day care settings. While Ofsted will still make the required checks on the Registered Person and day-today manager of a setting, it is now up to the employer to be responsible for checks on other staff. Ofsted will still process applications for CRB Disclosures made before 3 October, and those required as part of new applications for registration received before 3 October. Most day care providers (other than large day care organisations who are already registered with the CRB, and local education authorities), will now need to make alternative arrangements for CRB Disclosure applications - in order to continue to obtain subsidised checks currently paid for by the Department for Education and Skills. Three organisations have been contracted by the DfES to countersign subsidised CRB Disclosure applications. Day care providers will need to contact one of these organisations and set up an agreement with them. This is in order to ensure a proper understanding of their role in checking the applicants' identity and complying with other CRB requirements. Their details are given below. All currently registered day care providers have been sent a letter about this change, and all new applicants will also receive a copy when their application form is received by Ofsted.
