Growing Ambitions
Volunteering in education – give half an hour and inspire young people with career ideas
Introduction
Together we can inspire the next generation in Southampton and the surrounding area to aspire to more. Getting in front of young people and telling them about our careers and day jobs is an easy but crucial contribution we can make.
Context
With government targets of 50% of all young people to remain in education and training until 18, society needs to be encouraging young people to consider all options and widening participation. When they hear face-to-face about a job or career path from a successful and enthusiastic person already working in the field, they are far more likely to consider that job or career as a real option for them. Motivational spin-offs such as discipline and focus are also deemed to be considerable.
Why volunteer?
Volunteering increases well-being – so you will enjoy it! It’s a chance to really ‘connect’ and act as a positive role model for our young people, some of whom may have few others.

We have teamed up with award-winning, not-for-profit, Growing Ambitions to enable you to offer to speak. There is no long-term commitment for you as a volunteer Speaker – you can opt out at any time (and in again) with a few clicks of your mouse.
Four steps
Right here you can register as willing to receive an invitation from a school, college or university near where you live or work – to give a half-an-hour talk.
